Fall Family Festival At Funny Farm Rescue & Sanctuary

The volunteers at Funny Farm Rescue & Sanctuary are dedicated to giving their animals a wonderful home. Today they hosted a Fall Family Festival, a fun and charitable event to benefit the animals. Everyone was able to meet Funny Farm Rescue’s loving animals. There was pumpkin painting, face painting and unique vendors of all kinds. The animals, most of the 350+ of them who are rescues, were roaming freely and sharing their sanctuary with all animal lovers who attended.

Some, but definitely not all, of the animals I met are captured below in pictures. Click on the pictures to read more about them and like them on Facebook to follow Funny Farm Rescue’s journey!

Update About The Annual NJ Black Bear Hunt

It saddens me to say that I live in a state that participates in such a cruel tradition: the annual New Jersey black bear hunt. This year the hunt to control the state’s black bear population has been expanded into two parts. The first week lasted from Oct. 10 to Oct. 15 and the second will from Dec. 5 to Dec. 10.

Since the first day of the hunt a whopping number of 549 bears have been killed, marking it the second highest harvest since the hunt reopened in 2010. This black bear hunt has been held every year that Governor Chris Christie has been in office.

The aftermath of last week’s hunt ended with bad news, which may have made room for some good news. Pedals, a wild New Jersey bear who was famous for walking through backyards on his hind legs, was killed.

Jena Mazzio Talks About Ahimsa Acres And Rocky The Miracle Pig

Sometimes rescuing animals is not only a running thought, but it is an instinct. This is exactly how Jena and Anthony Mazzio felt when they finally opened Ahimsa Acres Sanctuary and it certainly showed when they saved a 10-day-year-old pig who only had a 5 percent chance of living before he was lucky enough to meet them.

Rocky the miracle pig has brought the Mazzios’ a story that will forever remind them why they are doing what they do. Rocky is named after Rocky Balboa for the fight he put up and for the Mazzios’ hopes of never giving up.

After opening their dream sanctuary in March of 2015, Jena and Anthony Mazzio find themselves with a loved handful 11 chickens, 6 ducks, 5 pigs, 3 rabbits, 2 sheep and 2 goats later.

3 Types of Rescues Every NJ Animal Lover Should Be Familiar With

After educating myself on rescues and sanctuaries, I wanted to try to visit one at least every month. Becoming closer to animals (physically and emotionally) has always been a goal of mine. I’ve always been jealous of the people who live in the states where they are lucky enough to be able to walk outside and spontaneously see wildlife. Don’t get me wrong, I still appreciate our New Jersey squirrels and rabbits and still act like a little girl who wants to keep one as a pet when I see one.

I used to have trouble finding places in New Jersey, but they are here. I made it easier for you animal lovers to browse through and choose where you want to visit first…

Blind Kitten Looks at Life with No Setbacks

Here are two happy, playful and loving kittens. Can you see a difference between the two? Probably not. One of these kittens is only four months old and has already been through surgeries, medications and pain. However, as you can see, she is not letting any of those obstacles get in her way of living like a normal cat.
